The Pye PTV was one of the best portable TVs to be made in the 1950s, in fact the set is a development of a studio monitor. The PTV was one of the first receivers to employ a frame grid valve in the tuner, an ECC88. Three stages of vision IF amplification result in outstanding fringe area performance. There is an example of both receivers in the shop. No idea when I'll ever get around to doing anything with them.
However, I did successfully return a Pye TT1 transistor portable to working order. All that is required to finish the job is to introduce some sort of voltage regulator to provide the 10volts supply.
The original 1960 circuit employs nine 1.2volt NiCad cells for the voltage stabiliser, not nice, so perhaps something better can be used instead.
I was always of the opinion that the TT1 employed a special CRT, a tube which would have a special low consumption heater, not so, the Cathodean C36-23 has an ordinary 6.3volt 0.3amp heater. There is nothing special about the gun, it's similar to the Mullard AW36-20 which is employed in the PTV.
