Hi.
Now this is an interesting thread an a difficult one for me to answer.
I am finding the timeline hard to get right, one reason is because of my mothers infatuation with Jehovah's Witnesses! We only celebrated Christmas and birthdays possibly twice when I was young, that added to her austerity and meanness added to us putting our childhood out of mind.
I did though on a couple of occasions get the odd present and one was a Philips EE8 Electronic engineer kit which was usually had the two transistor radio made up.
I was also given a 6 transistor radio, a Kendy about 1962-63 and I remember writing to radio Luxembourg for a request to play Rolf Harris's Sun Arise, they did actually read out my letter but played his next single!
As time moved on I landed up with a Pilot radio, one I've searched for, for many years, It was push pull had umpteen bands and weighed a ton. When I entered the TV trade in 1970 it was like a breath of fresh air!
