My grandad who was a wireless operator during the War, showed me how to build a crystal set in the mid 70s using a diode and I did a few of them for friends-I think the limit was 4 as I had 4 crystal earplugs that he'd given me.
The nicest valve set I've owned was years ago, a big Saba Frieburg stereovollautomatic 125 complete with fm stereo decoder fitted. A monster 5 speaker of a set and even the waveband buttons were illuminated.
Why weren't we making such good motor driven sets?
