Printer problems since switching to W10

I thought that Microsoft promised that all your existing peripherals would continue to work under W10?

I have a Canon LIDE 60 scanner that works fine with W7 but there is no driver available for Helen's W8 machine - although I understand there is a workaround for it, but have yet to try it.

When I let the W10 upgrade go ahead I don't want to lose the scanner and, for the amount of use it gets, have to buy another ...
