Speaker Grill Cloth fixing question

Referring to my thread about fixing the grille cloth to a Philips 'Superinductance' Radio's Bffle Board, I've since refitted the speaker and o/p transformer, and as far as I can see, leaving out the 4 metal rods originally used won't cause any problems.  They appear to have been used purely as a means to locate the original grille cloth in place, along with 8 staples
