In my earlier post on restoring the KB MK1 FB10, I remarked on what seemed to me to be an odd HT feed arrangement - two 8K2 resistors in parallel, (making 4K1), then a 1K8 in series with those, giving a total resistance of 5K9. Why not, I ask, instead, using either a single 5K6 of 6K2, either of which would be +/- 5%, given that the three resistors would in any event have been 10% tolerance carbon composition types? I've attached the circuit to highlight what I mean. It's not keeping me awake at night thinking about it - just trying to get into the minds of the designers. After all this set was introduced in the austerity years in 1950, just five years after the war ended and four years before rationing ended. An era when the tendancy would be to design a set that worked well, then remove parts until it stopped working, then put the last part back!
