That does look to be the same. It's a wavemeter (a little spark transmitter) with a filter to peak the wideband spectrum. It has variometer tuning. The chrome lid gives access to the battery compartment. Eveready 1289 4.5 volt. In the lid there's a chart relating the dial position to wavelength. My (30 year old) old Polariods are bit scruffy but show the spectrum at dial settings of 50, 100 and 150 corresponding to 800kHz, 700kHz and 560kHz. It has no output connector but radiates quite well without any aerial. The line spacing reflects the buzzer frequency.
