The word 'novice' has a very clear meaning and is always related to a particular skill set.
Being an astronaut who has walked on the moon doesn't mean that you slightest idea about what goes on, electronically, beneath the panels on your space craft or lunar lander or that you have ever held a driving licence for a car. You could even be the most dangerous person on the road on a push bike!
You could be an expert on "diesel engines, cylinder heads, alternators (and) water-pumps" but it is completely irrelevant to the subject matter discussed here.
