When I was looking into refill kits for our laser printer a while back I found a lot of suppliers who could also sell the replacement chip, which basically tells the printer that you've fitted a new cartridge which is genuine, usually with instructions for fitting.
In the event, I happened to find replacement cartridges at comparable prices for both the mono* and the colour printers so didn't need to go down the refill/rechip route.
I suggest that you have a session with Google (other search engines are available) for refill kits and look carefully at the websites of several of the vendors. From my memory of doing this I found a few who gave very detailed descriptions of their products with clear instruction about how to proceed.
* The rebuilt cartridge I got for the Brother HL-2270DW printer was actually cheaper than the cheapest refill + chip kit I could find!
