I've got mixed views on America. Generally I liked America a lot more in the late sixties and seventies but I pretty much dislike modern America. The motive for the dislike is the country has become too economically motivated and technology now dictated by corporations. I'm against science being motivated purely by profit instead of exploration and adventure as it was back in the Apollo era.
In the sixties and seventies or even the fifties, I think a lot of Americans did have a genuine passion for technology and science so I read a lot of American textbooks of that period. The educational level then seems to me to be very good, probably well ahead of Europe at that time in sciences.
Today it's not as good at all.
