That's interesting. When I did my C&G 262 in the mid-'80s we were told that anything below 1,000VDC or 1,500VAC was Low Voltage; I THINK it was around 40V when it became Extra Low.
I was confused when I started to learn about valves as I couldn't see where this talked about HT was as that term brought forth images of power distribution lines at hundreds of kV, not a few hundred volts.
Some American words are ones which were used in England but then fell out of use here: Shakespeare talked of "Fall" instead of Autumn. Railways were certainly initially called Railroads, or Rail Roads, here.
