Lots of people quote the Serial Number which is about as much use as the proverbial Chocolate Fireguard.

One Pye came to me three or so weeks ago. It's another case of a broken potentiometer. Not sure why people who used these sets used to break the volume knobs. Not sure what that Pye is but I found a pic online of the same set. I just shoved it on my boat. The other Pye is being used by a friend but I warned her to be careful as it has leaky D.C. on the volume. I imagine work on those sets shouldn't be that difficult although I haven't taken the chassis out yet.
Then there is a McMichael in the family garage. Never worked on one of those before. Also that 1939 Halycon battery set with its metal rectifier.
