That Simplex X Super has cathode injection of the L.O. Frequency as opposed to grid injection. I noticed that after going through some American Mixer Signal Converter designs. So, now the schematic makes a lot more sense. Not sure if this is more of an American trend to use the cathode instead of the grid. Most home manufactured sets tend to favour a Triode Hexode all in one frequency changer tube.
