Here you can see my trade-mark Wima capacitors that are really inexpensive to buy. In most cases I solder extension leads to the legs. It means I can do a lot of radio work on a proverbial "shoestring budget".
And I'm impressed with the quality of that photo - was that with "macro mode" enabled?
Hopefully the next set will be a bit easier to work on. When it comes to valves radios, I'm relatively inexperienced with them, but where possible, I stick to Hacker Mayflowers because of their tag-strip construction which makes serving a lot easier than most.
I didn't see the point of stuffing the original capacitors as they were eye-sores. They had to be cleaned up before I could begin to decipher any value. Some of the soldering work was a nightmare. Of course, I did clean the chassis and I cleaned the wiring with cotton buds.
One factor is there was a missing pin on the KT61 output beam tetrode. That had to be investigated but some research into that indicated they were sometimes made with a missing pin that is shown as blank on the schematic.
I took a slight break but I have to try and improve the smoothing circuit, restring the tuning mechanism and all the scale lamps need to be fixed up.
