Well done, I was beginning to dispair!
But why "tubes"? I think of them as valves.
How was the blond? Any plans of returning for more instruction? Does she do "wireless"?
Yesterday was a bit spoiled by the suspected theft of my mobile phone - probably taken from my jacket pocket. It's not worth any money but does have a lot of song lyrics on and photos of my dog.
As to the radio, I very often come to a stop if there is some problem that bothers me. In this case there were some issues with electrolytic cans and over the weekend I found pages of articles have been devoted to this subject (testing, reforming and so on). I also noticed a few subtle circuit differences between radio schematics in this area.
I'm not likely to encounter any radio in the near future that would be in as bad a state as this latter as it was really just a heap of junk when I picked it up. One indication of this is the scale lamps which you can see have so much surface rust and grime, there could be barely any electrical connection. I don't know why the bulbs were all dead but perhaps a spike at some point. Another indication was the totally jammed tuning mechanism which looked as if it had been out of action for ages.
