The resistors are NOT in the electrolytic can.
There should be a wire from the 16uf terminal C35 which goes to R20 (this may be fed direct from the rectifier HT output as a second wire, maybe this was not replaced when you were fiddling with adding silicon diodes, or was that a different radio, I cant remember now). Then there should be a connection from the other end of R20 to the 8uf terminal C34 on the other smoothing can located in front of the tuning capacitor..
Check the layout diagrams I added to my last post, you will see that the 2 main smoothing caps are in different cans.
