An update. Tried again at the weekend and got the ipad to print. No idea what was wrong before. It just worked. The only snag is when printing a photo we couldn't find any way of sizing it sensibly. It came out scaled up by about 20% wrt the A4 page. Didn't seem to be any "print to fit paper" or % scaling functions.
No luck with the Macbook. At least it found the printer this time and accepted the print job. Macbook said it was sending to the printer but nothing happened. After a while it seems to finish sending. The printer still does nothing. At least we can see scaling controls here but not doing much good as we can't actually print! Tried with a USB cable too. No difference.
