The rules will be different in commercial premises. Where it won't be is in areas that have standard 13 amp sockets where tools and equipment are used, these sockets need to be RCD protected. I can't see how you can strap a varistor between live and earth and use an RCD which will trip out every time the varistor conducts. Or am I reading this wrong.
