Brian, please don't apologise. This is a fascinating first hand account of a brush with history. I wonder which system the ali discs were recorded on. A cousin of my father (who went on to found EAR, making gramophones in the 1950s) made a recording system not too dissimilar to the well know Cecil Watts one. I had a deck for it but the recording head was badly broken. The replay head worked OK and I used to play 78s on it. I still have a few discs though they mainly sound like hailstorms when played.
