All my computers have the Num Lock set to off by default. I never use them to enter numbers as being used to those being on the top row goes back to before I had a computer at all.
Linux doesn't scare me, only some of its users. In fact the more I use it the more I like it; I'd certainly rather have it than Windows 8. Best of all, thanks to DOSEmu and Cups, I can now print from my 1987 word processor directly.
The scrunched-up keyboards are the main problem I have with lap-tops. That would certainly be something I'd check carefully before buying one.
