We've got two laser printers, both bought new.
The first one is a Brother HL-2270DW mono machine which was on special offer for ~£80 - about £50 less than I ever saw one again! - so a bit of a bargain. It does Duplex printing, which I like, and is networked via the VM Internet Router so both Helen and I can use it from our laptops and also from the 'new!' desk top.
I can't remember how long we've had it but its starter toner cartridge finally expired last year.
The only criticism I've ever seen of it was of Canon's excessive toner cartridge prices but I found a full size cheapie and it's fine.
The colour printer is a Canon LBP 5050n and is also networked. I can't remember the cost, although it is much newer, but I'm sure it was less than £100. Helen uses it a lot for colour printing - which is excellent - and has obviously been caning it because we got a low yellow toner warning a few months ago!
A got a set of cheapies for about the same price as Rpb and now we're all set up for a few more thousand pages!
Even if they only lasted for 1,000 pages, that's still less than 3p a copy - and no expensive photo paper needed, either.
I remember being horrified by figures like 85p for a full colour inkjet A4 print - plus the paper, of course! - which is why I've never owned one.
