Have you considered using nylon drive cord? A pulley at each end on the operating lever's travel and a suitably sized tuning drom on the pot.
270° is 75% of 360° so the cord will travel 2.35" per inch of drum diameter.
When you consider the number of drive cords in use back in the day, the actual number of breakages was minute, so it is obviously much stronger than you might initially think.
Of course, you could use some of that nasty stranded steel wire, much favoured by Philips, if you are not really convinced!
You can even use the pot spindle for the lever pivot ...
