Seeing as a lot of us have currently got our Computer Heads on I'll ask this here — sorry, Mark. Linux forums frighten me and a lot of what's on them seems to be about different and/or older versions than that I use.
If I'm typing something like this post and want to highlight some text to make it bold, or whatever, I press and hold the shift key while pressing the appropriate cursor keys.
Now, I grew up with 88-key XT keyboards so still instinctively reach for the cursor keys on the numeric pad and all is well in Windows.
However in Linux, specifically Linux Mint 17.1 Mate, this gives numbers.
Is there any way of switching this off, short of a massive re-mapping exercise with xmodmap?
