My choice is always dictated by what I can find at the MIT Flea Market. I started with LaserJet IIs, then 3s, 4s, and now a pair of 1320s (not that I need two, but the second was cheaper than a new cartridge). Of course printers are much cheaper now than 15 years ago, so buying a new one is perfectly sensible. But I still like the "overbuilt" office models.
Well into this century I was still using Windows 3.1, which wouldn't have known what to do with a modern printer, but had built-in support for ancient office models (which were after all contemporary with Win 3.1).
