Laser printer cartridges are usually good for 1000s of pages so a 3000 page cartridge would be quite normal. Unless you're in a busy office or do a lot of printing you won't be getting new laser cartridges very often. They don't clog either. Sometimes the toner can settle. The cure is to take out the cartridge and gently turn it end over end a few times.
One nasty little trick that afflicts many lasers and inkjets alike is the low capacity cartridge they supply with a new printer. A surreptitious way of getting you to buy a new one sooner as well as knocking a few pence off the build cost. I think my Sammy has a 1000 page "starter" cartridge.
