I remember a very effective demo at college of electron flow in a conductor.
Two 12" rulers with a column of ha'pennies between them - I'd use 2p coins these days. Then, shove ha'penny style, place another coin over the table edge and fire it into the column.
As one goes in, another one fires out of the other end ...
Simply, innit?
