I didn't realise about the splines getting clogged. When I had the wiper off myself I thought the splines had been damaged and that it might need relatively expensive work to replace the drive mechanism. So I've learned something that's possibly useful in the future.

AW have a bit of a chequered past, having gone bust or been restructured twice in the not too distant past.
