An interesting old Coil

Here's the coils from a Pilot Super Wasp (the first comms radio some say).  Someone before me (possibly Jeffrey Dixon Nuttal, now sadly gone) wound the LW ones which work quite well.  I rewound some as he had done others in fluorescent coloured solid wire which looked awful.  Note the Catalin handles now badly discoloured but no cracks and still functional.  The aged boxes were home made as the originals were from the wrong version and torn and tattered.

   

For these you open the Wasp cabinet top, pull off metal lids on two ali boxes, take out two coils and replace with two others.  DX ing back then in 1928 / 9 was a slow and tedious business.
