Certain brands definitely mean something ...
e.g. Crucial is the retail arm of Micron, one of the largest memory manufacturers in the world (in the top 5 - a USD 32 billion business). Over the years I have bought in excess of GBP 100,000 (probably closer to GBP 200,000) worth of memory from them of various sorts and have never had any of it fail.
My staff have Kingston 128Gb secure USB sticks we use all the time for data transfer - never had one fail.
There is the cheap and there is the right way of doing memory. Stick to the reputable manufacturers (not repackagers) and you won't go far wrong...
