That sounds like a good result and with a matching pair. It sounds like it is time to build a fancy housing for them. They are certainly better together.
I still have one with European channel spacing but that looks like it could be modified for what I want as it is made with Toko coils and is one of the last thru hole builds. It should not be difficult to reverse engineer to a block diagram at least.
