One of the Thorn/BRC tv chassis used a capacitive dropper in the 1960's, I remember them well, opposite the tag end of the capacitor were a couple of tag strips that had the propensity to turn into a carbon arc, the usual fix was to snip them in halve at the stress points with a pair of side cutters.
