I installed Windows 10 on a laptop running Windows 8.1 the day of official release, no problem, and took about 2 hours.
Next day I "upgraded" a Windows 7 desktop, no problems.
Yesterday I "upgraded" a touchscreen laptop again all went well except I had to download an updated driver from Acer for the touchpad.
I have a friend who tried to upgrade his Windows 7 laptop but he got the invalid message and it would not activate, although he has a legitimate copy and product key for Windows 7. from an earlier post this seems to be affecting others.
I like Window 10, and the ex Windows 7 desktop runs much faster with 10, I am also on that PC using the Windows 10 "ready boost" function to use USB memory stick as extra RAM.
If you still want "programs" instead of "Apps" Classic Shell have a new version that works well with Windows 10. Download version 4.2.3
I may next year buy Windows 10 for one of my XP desktop PC's.
