Yes, that's the radio. Nice isn't it? I can say I'm flattered and encouraged by all your interest. I'd like to ask you all to bear with me a few days and then I'll be happy to send as many details, photos and information as you wish.

It's kind of hard to describe the situation with this radio but it's really a bit of a test for me to see if I've really got what it takes to become a half-decent radio engineer. I mean, the fact I set up a silicon rectifier had more to do with learning practical skills than with restoration.

You'll recall not too long ago I was working on a Bush transistor radio. Well, what happened was I made some very detailed sketches of the PCB and finally I put it to a side for a little while. I was feeling that my skills fell a bit short of what I was attempting at the time. I mean, there were some very basic things in practical theory that I'd missed. So, I winded up doing some valve work for a time as (1) I have the Chas Miller book as an aid (plus the ARA handbook) and (2) I'm a bit more clued up on valve circuits than modern semiconductors. Anyway, my first project that was an ACDC Ultra was successful. This GEC s the second project but it's pushed me. By the same token, I've learned from it as well.

The tricky part now is I have 2 companies on my case ready to supply the valves. They've been unable to locate them quickly so I've had to wait it out. Sometimes they've sort of disappeared but now both firms have given me a quote and one has offered to let me send any back that don't fit.

I think I just need to get the valves and power it up. As before I'll use my Current Limiter.

If anyone is still very curious about the valves, for now you can find the service manual easily online and it will give a better description of valves and bases than I can.
