Well good luck getting it working again if you choose to try Alan. I wouldn't be at all surprised if all the components are good, well with the exception of the valves that is. It's another reason I am attracted to the 1925-1935 era. I can restore/build sets using actual period components. Some components can be a bit hard to get hold of (grid leaks are a case in point) but it's normally worth the effort as they usually work. Most components can be repaired too if need be.
If you do decide to restore it, it would be an interesting exercise to see how it performs with the current layout versus rearranging the components in accordance with the article in the original post.
