Went through the set from end to end replacing caps as I went.
Only ones left in are the aerial ground, main smoothing can, EL84 cathode, and all the mica and ceramic puffs.
Every mouldy Hunts was US, the electrolytics reformed OK except the grid decoupling on the EL84 and the FM discriminator which was dumped as a matter of course.
2 of the AGC line resistors were replaced as they had gone high, and a potential divider was introduced into the FM agc feed to the magic eye as it was over sensitive.
Restringing done, lamps fitted, and that's about it. Alignment was good so it was left as is. A lovely working VHF64 on the shelf for a soak test.
I did have a good look inside the tweeter, the foam was OK so I put it back together. It works but doesn't seem to do much really, the overall sound from all 3 speakers though is great.
AM performance is good despite the bottom coupling of the aerial coils.
Despite all the capacitors that these sets need and the struggle unwrapping the solder tags, I like them a lot. They are honest, well constructed sets with few vices, decent transformers and speakers too.
Next...... cruising to Cropredy time for Fairport Convention gig in mid August so no more workshop for a while. Cold soldering irons.
