Thank you Ed, I've now got the case open, the screw heads were covered by lead inserts. I would now like a circuit diagram with component values if possible. Once I withdrew the meter part the every thing looked old but in good condition. I connected my multi meter on the DC range, wound the handle and got 7 volts on the output terminals. So it could be the generator which is faulty, as I'm not in need of a 1000 volt Megger I won't lose any sleep over it, but will keep trying to fix it, I like a challenge . I have a 500 volt one which comes in handy from time to time when testing motors for my friends. Ted
