Door bell timer using 555 IC?

What's next, David? A redesign of the space shuttle? (It certainly could do with it, that monstrous horse designed by a committee) - though I don't think a 555 timer was involved, nor a doorbell...
But as an exercise in problem solving, this piece of committee-assisted but Yorkie-filtered brainstorming has been both successful and entertaining. Thanks for that!
