Hi All
I came across this site whilst hunting for info on repairing a Bush TR82C, and what a repository of experience and advice it is!!
The radio in question was bought new by my parents in the 60's and stopped working a long time ago, possibly 25 years or so. It was destined for the bin following a shed clear out but I managed to liberate it maybe 15 years ago to attempt a repair sometime!! Long story short my mother's kitchen radio is playing up (she's 87 now) and I thought what a wonderful gesture it would be to give her the radio that was part of her family growing up in a working condition.
My only experience with radios was to repair and revive a 1952 Ferranti valve set owned by my gran, it also was destined for the bin when my gran passed away but no, I had to have it. A few electrolytics, the rectifier valve and one of the amplifiers (cant remember which one) and it burst into life, well LW and MW, never got around to try and get the SW working. This was 20 years ago and I still have it in my garage, it drifts a bit but I pt up with it for the nostalgia. I remember my gran and grandad sitting listening to their favourite programmes on it as a small child.
So back to the Bush. I have brought it up from the garage, it is filthy inside and out. My plan is to order a PP9, give it a good clean then attempt to find my way through the circuits with my limited RF knowledge. I have studied electronics at college (HNC HND) so familiar with some of the terminology, unfortunately they never taught me radio at college but I suppose the fundamentals still stand.
My only test equipment is a decent multi meter but if I get into it I could buy more, I've a decent tool kit for the 'mechanics'
I've read about the 117's fitted so I suppose that would be a good starting point
ANY advice would be greatly received
I'm feeling the bug!!
Many Thanks
Jim
