Right - as suspected, according to http://exifdata.com, the orientation has been set to "rotate through 180 degrees" - see attached screenshot.
The XP image viewer spots this and shows it the right way around. Paint Shop Pro V6 (pre-historic version!) also gets it right. But Firefox does not! Well, new versions don't - obviously the older version that I was using this afternoon does look at the Exif data...
This does show that the forum software is doing the right thing when creating thumbnails, as I speculated earlier. But our web browsers are not. I wonder why? I'll try to do some research tomorrow, but for now I must sleep!
