Many thanks David; there is also the satisfaction of using a tool made by oneself costing so little but being so useful; I enjoy tinkering around and it is amazing what can be made from offcuts or scrap; my 4" belt sander although looking rough works extremely well and the only real expense was in buying the abrasive belts.
I've managed to take a couple more pictures Rob and the first shows a capacitor in position ready to have a coil added; the cap is placed to the left allowing the wire to extend approximately 1" past the winder main post and notice the wire is bent away from me at around 45 degrees; the spinner is then slid onto the needle engaging the wire into it's slot as shown then the spinner is pushed firmly to the post; by doing this the wire retains a bit of spring ensuring it locates into the spinner slot; now securing the wire with my left finger or thumb to the front top of the post I use my right fingers to rotate the spinner allowing the spinner to move away from the post as the coil is formed; once completed the new coil simply slides from the needle.
The position of the clamp and needle allows a natural seat or location for the wire to be secured by finger or thumb during forming.
It sounds rather long winded but a coil is formed in seconds; The needle size quoted works for most components but can be varied if required.
It was just a little fun project that turned out well.
