Over on the Hacker Radio group, we've discussed the prospect of using these in Hacker Mayflowers and the record players, and Ian has experimented with some success. He kindly sent me a couple to try, and I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't got around to it as yet.

Just to follow up on that. I modified a Hacker RV20 Mayflower II by disconnecting the heater supply to the two output valves and passing it through a voltage doubler before reconnecting and substituting 2 x PCL86 for the original ECL86s. This is my kitchen radio which is in use for about an hour a day. It has been running for nearly three years like this without problems. The PCL86 were NOS Polam valves bought from eBay at a cost of £1.60 each (10 off for £16.00) + postage, somewhat cheaper than NOS ECL86s!
