I saw this on ebay and as it wasn't a silly price and didn't attract much interest I bought it.
However, I was a bit surprised by it's shear size.
That's a 6" Rule beside it.
It's plugged into a 6 Pin Base which I don't think is anything Standard.
It has a Label which says:-
FORMO Two Range Tuner
(Reinartz)
There was a John Reinartz in the early '20s who published Designs, but whether this is associated with him I don't know. Formo is in the Radio Museum but not this particular Coil.
So, 6 Terminals and 3 Coils what could be simpler? Errr, no. A quick check with an AVO showed that wasn't the case at all. Having carefully removed the Fluff and Dust from the inside it was clear that there were extra connections, like this :-
In fact a bit of jigger-pokery produces this:-
Which bears a distinct resemblance to the Repanco DRR2, as analysed by David.
However, there is a bit of a size difference
So, is that how it's supposed to be used?
Does anyone else have one?
I'll have to get out an ancient Battery Valve and Baseboard Holder to do it justice.
