A bit of research found that the reason in change between the Mk2a Greys and the Mk2b Blacks was due to Amstrad moving production away from Hong Kong to Taiwan. Funny how things come around, seeing as Sinclair got their fingers burned due to industrial relations and build quality when the ZX81s and Spectrums were made by Timex Scotland and the whole thing moved out to the far east.
