Collets, properly fitted and not worn, are generally considered more accurate than a Chuck.
On the other hand they often don't have a through hole so you can only use short lengths of material.
If you can do all the Turning for a job without removing the work from the Chuck, and the final diameter is less than the original, it doesn't matter if it isn't very central.
