Thanks for that Nick. To be quite honest I dislike W8 with a passion so have not investigated it to anything like the degree I did with XP. The warranty runs out on this PC at Christmas and W8 will be running out with it. Anyway back on topic.
Ignore the type of diode used for D1 and 2. Any old 1N400x will do.
The current limit pot will have to withstand the full HT to body voltage or be fully insulated from the chassis. VR3 is a preset and adjusted so the current limit starts to rise at the first movement of VR2.
Running the simulation at full voltage and the limiter set to minimum current showed there was still 5mA flowing through the load. Not sure if that will be a problem.
