Hand Coil Wave-Winder

In 2011 in Model Engineering Workshop Magazine there was a design for a coil winder to wind 'solenoid' type coils

A mate of mine takes that Magazine although I don't remember him telling me about it. I'll see if he's still got it. He probably has 'cause he's a Bachelor and a candidate for one of those TV Programmes wher they go along to muck out people's Houses
I have to say I'm pretty unimpressed my Picture 5.

The writer stated that stepper motors are the way to go, and was considering developing a winder along those lines, but that has yet to materialise!

I fear he's right. A small Processor and a couple of Stepper Motors would do the job. Perhaps someone could do it with a Raspberry Pi.
On the other hand a couple of Up-Down Counters and Variable Frequency Oscillators would probably do the job fine, and also do Wave winding as well.

The article (two 5-page articles actually - one on the winder, the other on heart-shaped cams), was in issue 182 MEW Autumn 2011 Alan. Both articles were well written and well illustrated.
(It also featured winding a two-coil guitar pick-up, where any old scramble winding will do, as many a youtube video will attest).
