Blame the cameraman for the manky pic - I was trying to find a shaded place out of the sun to avoid shadows. I stood it on a piece of white plastic sheet which the camera seems not to have liked. This camera is new and has 18 different settings - if I had any interest in photography I'd probably settle down and read the instructions, but I'm just a snapshot merchant really. The paint is actually 'ebonising lacquer' (used in woodturning to mimic ebony), but I thought that sounded a bit too posh. I sealed it with sanding sealer then sprayed it black so as to match a black octal valve-base - it's not an artefact or an ornament - it's just a coupler. As I said earlier, I only turned it in case anyone who was minded to make any adaptors but only had a woodturning lathe not a metalworking one, could knock one out in wood rather than plastic.

A bit pointless really because anyone with a woodturning lathe would know that anyway.

Something in beech not painted, or something varnished? See below for a re-run of one of each - where did I find the time? Must have had too much time on my hands!

(The beech for the 2" cube in a cube in a cube was from a firewood log I snaffled off my son's woodpile - the iroko for the 6" diam bowl was a scrap offcut from repair work on Hull dock gates).
