Surprisingly, I had trouble finding suitable octal valves to use as 'donors' to remove the bases to use as plugs in the adaptors.
The ones I used varied slightly in diameter from each other, and I had to resort to using one brown one, not that it mattered. Though octal valves are very commonplace, many of them don't have all eight pins. At the NVCF last Sunday, where there were countless duff octal valves to rummage through in boxes on several stalls, but I couldn't find any with all eight pins. The diameters vary quite widely too, according to the size of the 'bottle' to which they're fitted. I was after four or five 35mm (1 3/8") diam - there were plenty with five or six pins - none with eight, so they're still on my 'things to look out for' list.
Oh well, all part of the fun I suppose!
