Hi Col, Yes i still cant get the upper guide rod out. The locking screw/bolt came out easily but the rod seems rock solid in the frame ,I tried wd40 and leaving for a couple of hours but no luck even with the frame in a vice and gentle tapping with a block of wood and hammer on either end. I guess its been left in one position and must have surface rust . All i can think of is to put in a bath of acid for a little while to dissolve the rust.I dont want to hammer too much for fear of damaging the casting.
I`ll try what you say to get the upper wheel off ,all i could see was dirty grease when i had a quick look earlier under the cover.
What size wheels are on yours? The casting is different on the main lower casting body of mine and it has one less flange on the upper arm casting.

Heres some photos showing the casting and some images of others with their slight difference the thin table being one . Mine appears to be like the second saw featured and looks to have originally had a metal base plate.
