The Probe is passive as far as I can tell - just Diodes, Rs and Cs - so shouldn't be difficult to reproduce.
It used three Batteries, listed as Mallory TM233R, with two in Series and one separate. The only References that I can find are Mallory TR233R which are Mercury Batteries and definitely nor Rechargable. However, I suspect that a suitable number of NMHs should fill the Bill if I can figure out where to connect them.

I have looked in my old dad's notebook for battery equivalents, and he noted that Mallory TM233R = AAA
Do they fit?
